Short Endau Trip
Hola! Gosh, I can't believe it took me so long to post about my recent trip to Endau. I'm actually safely back home since Sunday afternoon but I'm just too lazy to update. Haha! Well, here it goes...
It all started on early Saturday morning. Me & mom left for Woodlands Checkpoint @ 4.30am sharp, with all hopes that clearence will be smooth. Guess what? Much to our shock, there were already quite a massive jam! So there we were, stucked at the Checkpoint until almost 6am. Thank god the Causeway have got no jams. Surprisingly too, JB roads were quite empty. Thus, we managed to reach my relative's home by 6.30am.
My mom's beloved possession
After a quick touch up and having 'Roti Canai' for breakfast, we were all set to leave for Endau. Co-incidentally, my relative's car was empty, thus me & mom decided to get a "free ride". Haha! Gosh, the roads up to Endau was freaky! It's just a narrow two lane road, with loads of Palm Plantation by each side. I really respect my relative! She drove at a constant speed of 100-120km/h and she even have the skill to overtake vehicles at that speed! Just awesome! ;) There were a few "accident-prone" moments but it just adds to the thrill. Thank god everyone's safe. :D
Such a brutal driver! Freaky! Haha!
After a good 3 hours drive, we finally reached our destination. I was surprised to see the house situated very near to a main road. There's really no peace and tranquility for such a beautiful village. Sigh! As a gesture to welcome guests, the host invited us to rest in their big house. While mingling with one another, we were served with ice cold syrup and some traditional snacks. They are just delicious! ;) After a having a quick sip & bite, I decided to "explore" the front porch. It's a true village indeed. Not only were there chickens running around, there were also a variety of plantation, from lady's finger to durian tree! Love it! :)

Soon after, the bride & groom were ready with their "bridal outfit". Well, it's their own actually. Look, the colours don't even match! Haha. One funny tradition in Endau is that there were no "Kompang" to mark the arrival of the bride & groom. They "silently" walk towards the dining area where guests, young and old, were patiently waiting for them. What's more saddening, is that there were no Dais! The bride & groom only had to make do with a simple backdrop that was put up at their dining area. So weird, no? A vast contrast with the celebration @ JB! ;D
Congratulations, Khasrul & Haslinda!

After eating a whole array of scrumptious cuisine, the bride & groom were then seated under a big tree to observe a "Silat" demonstration. Some acts were just jaw dropping but I really saw no link in having the demonstration. They are not like recruiting new "Silat" members! It lasted for a good 15-20 minutes, mind u! Gee! Then, it all gets more boring as there's no other form of entertainment at all. We decided to bid goodbye to the bride & groom and headed back to JB.
How unglam to be seated under a big tree! LOL!

All the best to the newlyweds! :)
Before that though, we stopped by somewhere near Mersing to purchase some salted fish and fish crackers. Not forgetting, some cuttlefish strips too! ;) Me & mom shopped like nobody's business and everyone teased us. Haha, they're just jealous! :P We also sampled a local delicacy called "Satar". Well, it's similar to Otah, only that it is made with more grated coconut. How unhealthy but it taste just nice!!! ;)

We reached JB at around 6pm. Settled down and headed to bed quite early that night. It was tiring being in the car for so long! The next day, we left for Singapore @ 10am thinking that it will definitely be a fast clearance since who would want to go back to Singapore so early in the morning, right? Once again, we were proven wrong. There was a massive jam as usual and we only reached home by half past noon. Gosh!
I'm like a tourist lost in a village! :D
That's how "fun" my Endau trip was. Haiz. Still, on the positive side, I get to experience different cultures and see different things. So yeah, I will definitely treasure those moments. Weeee! :D
P/S: My mom's driving has improved a whole lot now. So proud of her! ;)
Regards, Niz
