Goodbye 2008!

As mentioned in the previous post, the year 2008 has been a very very good year for me. I hate to bid farewell to it but at the same time, I also feel that I have to move on. One shall not bask in his/her glorious moments for too long, no? Haha. Hmmm... I hope 2008 has been a wonderful year for every single one of U too. Looking back, I'm sure we have made some mistakes here and there. Do not give up but instead, learn from all those mistakes, aite? I believe, we will all be a much more better person in the year 2009. Take good care of yourselves and may we all meet again in 2009! Hahahaha... :D

Reminiscing 2008

Hola everyone! Hope you are doing just fine. I know I haven't been updating my blog for the past 2 weeks or so but one thing u can be assured of, I'm still alive!!! Hahahaha. I just don't know why my days are so filled ever since I turned 19. Cheyyy! But seriously, I don't have much spare time. Whenever I'm free, I'll still be doing this and that and thus, totally got no chance to update this blog. Still, I've got to thank those who regularly visit just to check if I update (the counter tells it all!). ;) I hope, I will blog more in 2009, aite? Now, that could be my perfect New Year's resolution, no? Haha.

Anywho, before I step into the year 2009, let me reminisce my good moments in 2008. Hmmm... 2008 must be by far, the most fantastic year for me. I've gained a whole lot of experience throughout the year which are really really priceless. While it is impossible for me to highlight every single happenings, I certainly can name a few major ones which had left a very great impact in my life.

First up, in Jan 2008, I got the chance to be a part of the Singapore Mint team where I experience a more in depth Customer Service through participating in their Lunar New Year roadshow. Apart from that, I get to make new friends (which I still keep in touch with) and also learn more about Singapore Mint. I didn't even know it was a company that produces our everyday coins at first! I thought it's a sweet factory or something. Just imagine! Haha. Oh but the best part of it all, must be the *kaching* 500+ bucks pay! Hehe. :P

Next up, in late March to early April 2008, I got the chance to be a part of the Singapore Fashion Festival where I volunteered as an Usher. The experience was beyond wonderful! I've never ever dreamed of brushing shoulders with top models, socialites, designers, celebrities and other top notch figures but I got it! Haha. I don't care that I'm not paid because all those moments are so much more priceless. Nothing can substitute them! Well yeah, I also gained more knowledge about the fashion world. Oh man, I wish I can be part of the huge scale event once again, in 2009! :)

Hmmm... there's nothing much happened in May & June for me but I definitely won't forget my early days of July! Why? Well, I finally went on my most deserving Kuala Lumpur trip with mom! Hahaha. It took me a whole month to plan and I'm happy everything went on smoothly. Even though me and mom eventually fork out a whole lot just for a 3 days 2 nights trip, it was all worthit! I went nuts shopping at the Bukit Bintang malls! Haha. I hope to visit KL once again in 2009! ;)

In August, I was given the opportunity (by my Class Advisor) to be the emcee for a National Day Dinner held at Sengkang West where the Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, was the guest of honour! I was totally nervous no doubt but I'm glad I made it through. I was given a sum as a token of appreciation but I feel, that all doesn't matter. What matters is, my presence there at the event, was acknowledged by the PM himself. He smiled and nodded at me, ya'll! Hahahaha! Oh my, I still can't get over it! Geee... Oh yeah, another thing. This is also the month where I quit my part time job @ SOS (Sentosa). There were many factors that made me left but let bygones be bygones. I shall not elaborate. I can only say that I've learned a whole lot from everyone while working there for a good 10 months. I wish I could stay but oh wells...

Then came September and October. What else if not the fasting month and the Hari Raya month? Hahaha! I'm thankful that I was in the best of health throughout the whole of Sep and thus, I could complete all my fast. Hari Raya in 2008 meant a whole lot more for me because I get to really spend time with most of my relatives. It's nice to gather after being "lost" for a whole year. Haha! Oh yeah, I also went to a few Hari Raya functions. One of it is held at Anchorvale Community Club where all the students involved in the previous NDD were given out a certificate of appreciation. That's really nice, huh?

Well, in November, many great things took place. It felt like I experienced something new each day! Haha. Hmm... I don't know how to put it in words but trust me, I enjoyed every single moment. From the endless shopping to meetups, I think I'm just born lucky! Hahahaha... Just kidding! :P

Lastly, December finally came. I'm always euphoric when it's December. Why? Coz it's my birthday month!!! Hahahaha. I just turned 19 on 14th of Dec and there's nothing much I could complain regarding the celebrations. I really had a blast! Though I didn't get many presents in terms of material, I still get many other forms of presents. The most treasured ones must definitely be the great company from family and friends! :) I really would like to thank everyone who have made my birthday in 2008 very very much special. I bet it would be dull without U guys! U know who U are.... Haha! :D

So yeah, I guess that's about it. Wouldn't U now say that I had a fantabulous 2008? So many things happened! :) I feel extremely blessed. Thank you God. Now, as much as I'm thankful for all that happened in 2008, I still hope that 2009 would be a better year for U & me. Haha! I don't know how else to show my gratitude to every single one of you who have made a difference in my life. All I can say is, "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU"! May god bless all of U. Amin. :)

P/S: I've uploaded some pictures on my Facebook. Do check it out, aite? ;)

New Notebook!

OMG! Guess what? I got a NEW laptop/notebook!! :) I really don't see this coming but I'm so glad it did. Haha! There's actually nothing wrong my with current Toshiba Dynabook Satellite laptop (apart from the fact that it's bulky and heavy). It's just that my distant relative desperately needs a laptop for her school projects and so, she decided to buy mine. Why 2nd hand U ask? Well, it's simply due to her unwillingness to fork out a whole lot for a brand new laptop. She thought it wouldn't be worthit. Haha! After all, she trust that my laptop is still in good condition and that it is still able to last for the next few years. Weeee!

Since this "deal" is between family members, I decided not to charge her so much. In fact, I actually sold off both my laptop and printer to her at a great loss but I don't mind. :D I already bought myself a new printer around 2 months back and now, I got my new Acer Aspire. Woohoo! :) Obviously what she gave me wasn't enough to cover the cost of the new notebook but there's always a solution to any problem, no? :P Haha. Thanx to my Granny as she topped up the balance for the notebook! Yayness! LOVE U NENEK! :D

Now, I actually got a pretty good deal for this Acer Aspire 4520G notebook. I sorta share the same mentality as my distant relative when it comes to purchasing electronic goods from the stores. We want good things but we really don't want to spend so much. It's not about being cheapskate, stingy or not being able to afford the goods but it's more to savings. Don't U agree? Anywho, I decided to browse around eBay too see if anyone is selling a good notebook at a low price. Much to my shock, there are lots and lots of them!

I really had a tough time choosing the most suitable one. I did some research on all the "shortlisted" models and after much deliberation, I finally decided to lay my hands on this Acer notebook. I was so atrracted by the big memory and awesome functions but more importantly, I was attracted by the price! Imagine, a good notebook such as this retailing for ONLY SGD565 on eBay!?! WOW, I say it's more than worthit! Furthermore, the notebook is fully equipped with the essential softwares, especially Microsoft Office. Gosh, what more could I ask for?

Still, there's actually a down side to the whole deal. I'm not the first owner of this notebook. The seller had previously owned it for 6 months before deciding to sell it away to a more deserving person. She claimed to have rarely used the notebook. Obviously I don't know if that's true but so far, everything has been good. In fact, the notebook still looks new and "untouched". Luckily I'm not that fussy. But who would be when the deal is too good to resist? Haha. :D

Here are the Acer Aspire 4520G "Impressive Performances" (from Acer US's website):

* Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
* AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology, supporting AMD PowerNow!™ technology and AMD HyperTransport™ technology, offer boundless dual-core performance for hardcore entertainment multitasking.

Niz

Sedap Corner-Asian Fare & Grill

"From the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula since 1987, Sedap Corner has enthralled discerning diners with its gastronomical Asian fare along with its mouthwatering traditional temptations.
Since June '06 Sedap Corner now extends its spellbinding epicurean and culinary experience to the region and beyond, along with its distinctively Asian spread and sizzling choices of Western grill.
Tantalize your desire here at Sedap Corner-Asian Fare & Grill amidst its warm hospitality and friendly service, for desires are meant to be fulfilled." - FB

I believe, the last time I stepped foot into a Sedap Corner restaurant in JB, was many many years back. At that time, it was quite a popular dining place for Singaporeans who visited JB. The food served weren't that great actually but I don't know what made people want to dine there. Maybe due to the "new concept" SC introduced, back then? Anywho, since I haven't been going to JB on a regular basis now, I sort of miss Sedap Corner's delicacies and ambience. I always wish there's a branch in Singapore so that we can avoid the hassle of travelling to and fro (pergi lapar, balik lapar :P)! Haha. Guess what? Now, there is a NEW branch in Singapore! :)

I've actually spotted the branch's existence @ Simpang Bedok since a couple of months back but I'm not too sure if it is the "real" Sedap Corner. I thought it was just another restaurant that carries a similar name and thus, never quite bother to make a "research" about it. But somehow, I really felt like having dinner at the restaurant today. My instinct tells me that this is the REAL Sedap Corner restaurant. Haha! So before long, me and family were already settling down in the cosy restaurant. Before I could even look at the menu, I already saw someone familiar in Sedap Corner's uniform. It was Chef Bob (a celebrity chef)!!!

Apparently, Chef Bob is the Marketing Director cum Chef for Sedap Corner's branch in Singapore. How wonderful! I've always wanted to taste food prepared by him! What's so special U ask? Well, he was once a chef in a renowned hotel, okay!!! So obviously the food served must be of a high standard, no? ;) Just by glancing through the menu, I knew that the food will be more than delish. No doubt it's a little pricey but it's totally worthit! Good food definitely comes with a good price too! Haha. ;) We soon ordered what we wanted and started savouring as soon as the dishes were served. Oh god, everything were beyond heavenly! I wonder how something can taste so good?! :P Anyways, this were what we had:

There are still a whole lot more delicacies for me and family to sample so definitely, it won't be the last time I'm visiting this lovely restaurant. I just can't wait to dine there again! Hmmm... maybe I should really save up and try more of Sedap Corner's western delicacies. Everything looks so tempting on the menu! Haha. Gosh, I'm extremely euphoric! It's not often that we get to savour something oh-so-perfect, no? :P Haha. WEEEEE! :D

Muallaf (The Convert)

Yesterday, I once again went out with Huz & Ann Jay (too bad Iz couldn't make it) to watch an arts film called Muallaf. It is basically about two Malaysian sisters, Rohani and Rohana, who run away from home to escape their wealthy father’s mistreatment. They find refuge in a small town where they get to know Brian Goh, a young Catholic school teacher. Brian is irresistibly attracted to the two girls. Impressed by their extraordinary courage in the face of adversity, their relationship forces him to confront the ghosts of his own childhood.

Director Yasmin Ahmad explores the possibilities of emotional survival after being traumatised by loved ones. Through the wanderings of three lost souls who band together and console one another, Muallaf celebrates friendship, forgiveness, and the coming to terms with the past. It also portray a powerful spiritual connection that cuts across religious boundaries.

I have never understood arts film before but after watching some of Yasmin Ahmad's film like Sepet, Gubra & Mukhsin, I must say that this Malaysian filmmaker, really know what she's doing! She never released a film for the sake of releasing it. All her films have the power to engage the heart, mind and soul. What I extremely love about her is, she's an open minded person. She dares to undertake taboo issues and showed them on screen. This sparks controversial discussions in Malaysia’s media. The Malaysian censorship authorities also requested key scenes in Muallaf to be cut, if it were to be aired in Malaysia. Eventually, the film was banned since Yasmin Ahmad didn't budge. No wonder the words "The film Malaysia may never get to see" was printed clearly on the movie's poster!

So for U who are yet to watch the film, please head to The Picturehouse at The Cathay right now! The deadline has been extended to 12th December if I'm not mistaken. Hurry as there are very very limited seats and it is always full booked! Do take some time to think about the message that lies behind each scene and I'm sure U will love this film. I qoute a verse from the film (roughly), "...people are afraid of things they don't understand..." So what are U waiting for? Haha!

To find more about Yasmin Ahmad and her humble thoughts, do visit her blog @ www.yasminthefilmmaker.blogspot.com

P/S: For your information, the numbers cited by one of the girls in the film actually represent verses from the Qur'an. Occacasionally, there are verses from Tao Te Ching and the Bible too! Awesome, right? If only I can recall all the numbers! I really wish to look it up in the "Tafsir"... :(

P/S/S: Yasmin Ahmad is currently working on her 2009's film called Talentime. Apparently, she chose to feature the Indians next. She has always featured the Malays & Chinese. I can't wait for the release!!! :D

Moody Monday

On Monday, I met up with Huz, Iz & Ann Jay for a simple dinner. I have no idea why we even made the plan to meet up that night because it was quite unneccessary. I mean, we have no other plans after dinner and I dislike wasting time just like that! But then, in the name of "having dinner with besties", I went on despite feeling quite tired.

Now, one thing about me that U may or may not know is, I really really hate someone who never carry out what he/she promises! More often than not, I will get extremely pissed when someone who have promised to arrive at a certain time, only arrive much much later (for whatever reason + more than 30 minutes late)! If that is not enough, he/she then expects me to understand his/her situation when he/she never even spare a thought about what I felt having to wait for him/her for that long in a public place. So yeah... Talk about basic courtesy, no? It's not like I have the time of my life to wait for him/her! Worst still, when I decide to do something while waiting for him/her, I was being labelled as having an attitude. What the freakin' hell? Is he/she a king/queen here? Argh!!!

So yeah, one of the person mentioned in the 1st paragraph had a big time argument with me regarding this "late arrival" issue. I don't know why but I just can't tolerate someone with no sense of urgency. Perhaps it's due to me being a punctual person. Sigh. So throghout half of the night, I was so moody and really was on the verge of going home. I didn't even eat anything for dinner (thank god I had something earlier)! Luckily, retail therapy managed to calm me down and soon enough I was feeling a little bit better. Frankly, I wasn't even fine after the person apologised and gave me a little token (the xmas moose below). It was the retail therapy but I never showed it! Hahahaha! :P

Since we really had no other plans, after going round Marina Square, we decided to just sit outside Esplanade and snap some pictures. I soon got bored of it and decided to go home by bus. Everyone agreed and we walked all the way to Fullerton Hotel. Moments before we arrive at the bus stop, Huz & Ann Jay decided to stop by Fullerton's washroom coz they find it gorgeous. I beg to differ! Haha. So after the short break, I thought we could finally head home but there was Huz who threw a fit about wanting to buy herself a drink. I knew it was her tactic to delay us all but somehow, I'm unable to object. Haha!

Now, guess what? We walked all the way from Fullerton to Clarke Quay (via the longer route) just to find a drink for Huz!!! Gosh, were we in the desert or what? My whole body couldn't take it anymore. I was beyond tired! Thank god for McD's Cornetto McFlurry or else, I would have fainted there and then. Haha! It was already 10.30pm for heaven's sake! I still wondered why I actually agreed to all the "sufferings"? :P At last, my mood sank once again. By 11pm, I felt it was just time to go home. No more delays. Since everyone wanted to reach home within half an hour, what other choice do we have other than taking a cab? I was shocked that the total bill came out to be a freakin' 22 bucks but it was worthit coz we went to 4 places. Hehe. I guess, the taxi driver was also moody since he kept silent even when we said thanx to him. Gee... what a night! :)

Niz
