Arab Street
Woohoo! It's already the 4th day of Ramadhan now. So far, everything has been good. Hopefully it continues to be smooth for the next 26 days! ;) OMG there's still a long way to go. Hehe. Anyways, yesterday, I finally got the chance to drop by Arab Street to check out their Ramadhan Bazaar and Eid Mubarak Light Decorations. From what has been said (in the press especially), it seems like there's really something worth checking out. Sadly, in reality, there's nothing much to look forward to. Everything was so mundane. In fact, I think there's nothing "new" this year. Every year's the same! So boring... I seriously have no clue what food to purchase at the Bazaar. There's not many variety, u see. Worst still, there are a few stalls selling similar food items. I mean, what's the point? Haha. I guess they really have to leave it all to luck. One thing that I hate most about Ramadhan Bazaars (be it Arab Street or Geylang or anywhere else for that matter), is the pricing of all the food items. Why must it be ridiculously priced? On normal days, everything is being sold at dirt cheap prices. When Ramadhan comes, everything is priced like as if it's a gourmet food. WTH? Sigh. Anywho, while me and mom were walking up and down the bazaar, mom suddenly stopped when she spotted someone familiar... It was our distant relative! Apparently, he had rented a space at the Bazaar to sell his signature delicacies. Since his stall over at Bedok Interchange Market Place is closed due to a major renovation, he said he doesn't mind setting up a "miniature" stall at the Bazaar. Then again, what's there to mind? He has another "bigger" stall at Bedok Corner selling a wide variety of food. What he sells at the Bazaar is "nothing". Haha. I really salute him! He knows the A-Z of business and never give up easily. Awesome, huh? What's more awesome, is his residence at Bedok Corner! A 3, yes THREE, story terrace! OMG!!! Hahaha... Finally, we bought some stuffs at his stall and proceeded to Bussorah Street to check out the buzz there. Guess what? I saw a whole lot of tourists, especially Caucasians, but none of them were interested in what's being sold in the shophouses. Some don't even look at it. Sheesh. Thus, how can the owners of the stores make a living? To think that they still stick around despite the lack of sales... Sigh. Pity them much. Oh yeah, we also passed by a new cafe. It belongs to Mayuni Omar!! I'm sure U know who he is. If U don't, he is actually a well known music composer in Singapore (I think :P). So, if U have the talent (singing/performing) and want to showcase it to him, visit his cafe NOW! Hahahaha! [Free Ad or what?!]
After feeling quite exhausted from going around, me and mom decided to call it a day and head home. We arrived back at home just in time for break fast. After settling down, we started to dig in. We bought "Nasi Ayam Penyet" and "Nasi Ayam Hainanese" from my relative's stall. We also bought Chicken Murtabak from the famous Zam Zam Restaurant. Hey, don't get the wrong impression. It's not like we gorge everything down at the same time! Hehe. As for the pre-dawn meal, we bought "Tahu Telur" and "Lemak Turi" from Minang Restaurant. Oh my, for god's sake, the tahu telur now cost a whopping 6 bucks!!! Not worthit I say. If only me and mom were not craving for it... P/S: I think I will only visit Arab Street again when the Eid is near. Maybe they will have something better then. Haha. :DRegards,Niz
