Garuda Padang Cuisine
I always look forward to the 12th of each month. Why? Coz it's mom's pay day! Haha. It simply means that she can splurge a little. If not for herself, it will always be for me. Gosh, how lucky am I? Hehe. :P Anyways, retail therapy is definitely our favourite pastime but recently, mom felt a need to stop all the "nonsensical splurging". Thus, as a subtitute, she decides to splurge on good food. She used to detest eating at an expensive restaurant but it's different now. Bring her to any restaurant anytime and she will just go all out. Woohoo! :) This month, we didn't have a hard time choosing a suitable restaurant for dinner. In fact, it has been the longest of time since we wanted to savour the delicacies @ Garuda Padang Cuisine, located at the basement of VivoCity. What held us back all these while were actually the ridiculous prices for their simple dishes. This is basically just a simple "Nasi Padang" restaurant but with a touch of "class"! Hahahaha, whatever! :P The concept is the same. U get to choose a variety of dishes to go along with the plain rice. Still, how could U compare a hawker centre ambience with this cosy little air-conditioned restaurant? Even the plain water was served in wine glasses. Haha! Much to my surprise, the dishes are not that spicy. Lucky for me as I really hate spicy food! Do U know that authentic Padang dishes are actually extremely spicy? I mean it! To them, the more "chilli padi" used in a dish, the more savoury it would be. Gosh, how INSANE! Haha. Oh wells, to each his own, no? The customers are mainly Indo-Chinese and I'm guessing that's why the Chef/Cook must have "modified" all the dishes to suit our local taste bud. Else not, the restaurant would have closed down a long time ago! Hehe. Here are the 4 dishes we ordered: Gulai Ayam, Lemak Daun Singkong, Rendang Sapi & Sambal Udang Petai. GO FIGURE! :D
After completing our sumptuous dinner, we decided to indulge in a typical Indonesian dessert called Es Teler. At the bottom of the glass, strips of Jackfruit & Coconut alongside a few chunks of Avocado were mixed with Jellies. A bit of Condensed Milk and Coconut Milk were then poured over the mixture. Next, Crushed Ice were added and shaped into a "tall mountain". The finishing touch is what I love most. Plenty of Chocolate Sauce! GOODNESS! How sinfully rich could this dessert be? At only SGD4.50, it was a total bargain! At least it's more worthit than ice cream, no? Haha. Overall, we just had a good time. It's nice to talk things over dinner with mom. Many of mom's friends actually envy the bonding I had with mom. Most of them were left alone once their children are in their late teens. Poor thing, huh? Oh wells, as I've always mentioned, mom only have me to depend on now. If I be like those other teens, would it be fair for my mom? Well, U judge. ;)P/S: The dinner @ GPC for two cost approximately SGD40. Pretty affordable, right? Regards,Niz
